Purpose Beyond the Pain

We’re down. But we’re not out.

“We’re living in a moment of deep and compounding crises. It is a time when people across the globe are sharing the same uncertainty, fear and pain. In a very divided US, the restrictions on social life have helped people see and value our human connections and interdependence. We must not lose that feeling.”

That’s how the collective behind the new movement, #WeavingCommunity, describes this moment for fostering more meaningful conversations, connections and relationships in this time of crisis. A time for turning a moment of pain into a moment of possibility.

“The defining moments of life are never the pleasant ones. It’s the hard ones. We are in a valley now. It’s an opportunity for a new birth.” – David Brooks

The cracks that existed for decades in our healthcare system, economy and social fabric are now being laid bare. Seeing the cracks clearly can create the space for the light to come in – and that can give us what we need most in this time: healing and hope.

To create the campaign, BBMG partnered with a network of hundreds of organizations interested in weaving together diverse yet interrelated conversations of vulnerability, caring and connection as we all try to navigate this moment. With the leadership of New York Times columnist David Brooks and The Aspen Institute’s Weave: The Social Fabric Project and the Listen First Project, founders of the National Conversation Project, we helped design and launch #WeavingCommunity, a social and community campaign to ensure we learn the lessons from this pandemic, use this time to heal our divisions and create the firm footing of connection that will allow our nation and democracy to thrive after the crisis.

The movement starts with joining the conversation at weaving.us and with #WeavingCommunity. We hope you’ll come weave with us.
